Request for Study Participants

Help Us with Our Research! Participate in Our Study!

We would like to invite you and your baby to participate in a study that will help eye doctors and scientists learn more about how vision develops. Specialists here at Smith-Kettlewell in San Francisco are studying how vision develops, and are developing new clinical tests for infants. To complete these important studies, we need parents and babies to help.

Our studies address questions like: How sharp is a baby’s vision at different ages? When do infants learn to use their two eyes together? How can we improve the diagnostic tests that doctors use? We hope this knowledge will eventually contribute to the healthy development of vision in children of all ages.

The tests performed are simple and non-stressful. You will be with your baby throughout the session. Although we try to complete the testing in one visit (each visit takes about 45 minutes), sometimes we need two visits to complete the testing.

We are studying infants less than one year of age. Most of our studies are completed in a one hour visit. You will be compensated $20 per hour. Parking is available adjacent to the laboratory. If you have older children, there is a convenient playroom available for them to use while their baby brother or sister participates in the research project.

We hope you will want to participate; this experience will give you a chance to learn something about your baby and will help us learn more about how visual perception develops. If you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment, please call us at 415-345-2075. You may also contact us by e-mail (babyvision@ski.org), or by FAX (415-345-2095).

Thank you!
