SKERI has enrolled with U.C. Berkeley's “Special Library Access” (S.L.A.) service for the purpose of requesting photocopies of journal articles and the borrowing of books to assist in research.

The cost of enrollment and the regular requesting and returning of materials will be paid by SKERI. However, all other costs (see SLA price list) will be charged to the requesting individual’s research grant account.

To determine the availability of materials at Berkeley, you may wish to click on the “CATALOGS” button at the bottom of the “SLA main page”.
Two listings are suggested for use in checking:
U.C. catalog “Melvyl Web” & Berkeley collections “Pathfinder”.

Accurate information is necessary for the librarians in Berkeley to fill the orders. On the accompanying form, please type or paste reference details in the format as they appear in “PubMed” or other complete listings.

When a request is submitted to “Photocopy Service Request @ Berkeley”:

1. The SKERI coordinator will fax the information on a signed form to Berkeley;
2. The submitter will be notified that the process has started;
3. When the material arrives, the SKERI coordinator will place it in the submitter’s box in the mailroom and will e-mail the person of its arrival, (If the material has not arrived within a reasonable time limit, an inquiry will be made to Berkeley).
4. If the item is a book, it must be returned to the SKERI coordinator before the 2 week loan period has expired, for shipment back to Berkeley. (The SKERI coordinator must document the shipment and verify the arrival at the library.) DO NOT RETURN THE BOOK YOURSELF.
5. The submitter will be asked to initial the charges on a monthly report to reimburse SKERI for expenses.

Legal Note:
In accordance with Library Circulation Policy, submitter accepts responsibility for the safe handling and timely return of all material borrowed. Submitter understands that the safety of borrowed materials is the responsibility of the submitter from the time the material leaves the lending library until it is received by the lending library, and that all costs for repair of damage or replacement of lost material must be met by the submitter. (National ILL code, 1980, IV.I)

Submitter accepts full responsibility for compliance with U.S. copyright law (Title 17, U.S. code) when making requests for photoduplication. Submitter understands that photocopy or other reproduction is "not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." Submitter understands that use or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use" may result in liability for copyright infringement.
