Duties of the Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer, I have the responsibilities of general supervision of the scientific and administrative affairs of the Institute. I report to the board of directors and perform duties required of me by the Board. My general responsiblities include planning and strategy, recruitment, fundraising, planning both educational conferences and special SKERI events, maintainging relationships with our neighbors, and budgeting.
Interests
My main research interests are in eye disorders such as strabismus and amblyopia. This would include abnormalities caused by neurologic, endocrinologic, and traumatic etiologies (for example, cranial nerve palsies, thyroid ophthalmopathy, orbital floor fractures, myasthenia gravis), resulting in isolated or multiple eye muscle palsies and/or mechanical restrictions to eye movements. Much of the work I have done involves the use of saccadic velocity measurements to differentiate between paretic and restrictive causes of limited ocular rotations and strabismus. The technique can also be used to monitor recovery in these conditions. In addition, I have an interest in the mechanisms and technique of extraocular muscle transposition surgery to restore ocular alignment and improve eye movements in patients with eye muscle palsies.
