I'm the Chief Operating Officer at Smith-Kettlewell. In this position, I'm responsible for the overall day-to-day administration of this private not-for-profit institute that has been dedicated to research on human vision and human eye movements for over 43 years. The research staff is comprised of 55 professionals drawn from diverse scientific and medical backgrounds along with eight pre-doctoral, post-doctoral and clinical fellows. The research is used to diagnose visual diseases and abnormalities, create more effective treatments, design and test devices that help partially-sighted, blind and hearing impaired. Working with an annual operating budget of $12 million, I supervise the functions of the eight professional administrative managers and coordinators responsible for 1) accounting oversight, 2) facilities coordination, 4) human resources, 5) pre- and 6) post-award research administration, 7) IRB coordination and 8) physiology support. I also serve as a member of the Board of Directors and serve as its Chief Administrative Officer.
