The images above are frames in a movie that we use to study the responses of neurons to visual stimulation. The raster plot shows responses of an LGN neuron to about 20 repetitions of the movie (each tick is a spike). The curves at bottom are the average firing rate of the neuron (blue), and the prediction of a simple linear model based on the linear receptive field of the neuron (red).
