GUIDE FOR THE EVALUATION
OF VISUAL IMPAIRMENT This 34 page document was prepared by an International Working Group and published for the International Low Vision Conference--VISION-99. It discusses the assessment of Visual Functions as distinct from Functional Vision. Visual Functions measure how the eye and the visual system function. Functional Vision describes how the person functions and participates in society in vision-related tasks. Assessment of Functional Vision is essential for vision rehabilitation. Statistical Estimates of Functional Vision can be based on measured visual functions. Such estimates can be used for legal purposes and for workers' comp (as in the AMA Guides), but cannot capture the details of individual performance.
