The environment around SKERI

SKERI is located at 2318 Fillmore Street in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco (map). This is a well-appointed affluent residential neighborhood punctuated with upscale shopping, lots of cafes, and many excellent restaurants all within easy walking distance of SKERI. Downtown San Francisco is an easy fifteen minute ride on public transportation. Many of San Francisco's other attractions– including the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf– are also easily accessible by public transportation.

The Miyako Inn-Best Western 415-921-4000; 1800 Sutter St. (cross street Buchanan St.); About a 10-15 min. walk to SKERI.

Laurel Motor Inn 415-567-8467; 444 Presidio Blvd. (cross street California St.). About a 20-25 min. walk or easy bus ride to SKERI.


Public Transit

We are located at 2318 Fillmore on the east side of Fillmore mid-block between Clay and Washington streets, one and a halfblocks north of Sacramento. Thus we can be reached via buses on Fillmore and Sacramento as follows:

From BART, or the S.F. MUNI light rail, get off at the Embarcadero station, the first one in San Francisco if you are coming from the East Bay. After leaving the train, walk towards the rear of the train and take the escalator up. There are sets of exit gates both left and right as you leave the escalator from the platform. Use the left exits to place yourself on the correct side of Market Street. Exit the station at the Drumm Street exit, the easterly most exit towards the rear end of the train you left. This exit lets you out near the California Street cable car turnaround and the Hyatt Regency hotel. As you reach street level via stairs or escalator, Market Street is immediately to your right. Make a sharp left turn of more than 90 degrees, which places Drumm Street on your left, and cross the cable car tracks and the driveway entrance to the hotel. Do not cross Drumm Street.

The stop for the "1 California" bus which runs on Sacramento is on Drumm Street just beyond the driveway entrance to the hotel.

Get off the number 1 bus at Fillmore. Since it is a "far side" stop, walk back towards the rear of the bus and turn left on Fillmore. Walk up Fillmore to Clay, cross both ways with stop signs, and continue up Fillmore past the Bank of America and our garage entrance to our main entrance.

From downtown Van Ness Avenue buses, get off at California, one stop before Sacramento and walk along Van Ness the same way the bus was going. Cross Sacramento and turn right to the bus stop. Take the number 1 California to Fillmore as described above.

From the Mission district, take the number 22 Fillmore bus, get off at Sacramento, cross Sacramento and walk up Fillmore to Clay, cross Clay and walk a half block to the Institute as above.

From Marin county, transfer from Golden Gate Transit to the 22 Fillmore bus at Fillmore and Lombard. Get off the Golden Gate bus on Lombard and continue the same direction the bus was going to the corner of Fillmore. Turn right onto Fillmore where the 22 stop is just around the corner. 

Get off at Sacramento, walk back the way you came from up one block to Clay. Cross Clay and Fillmore as above and continue up Fillmore one half block to the Institute.

Ground transportation from airport

The easiest way to get from the airport is by using one of the door-to-door van shuttle services, such as SuperShuttle. After collecting your luggage follow signs to the shuttle's designated pickup area. No reservations are necessary. Cost is ~$17 /person. Taxi fare is approximately $40, tip included.

BART now offers service to and from the San Francisco International Airport.

Parking

PARKING GARAGE AT CLAY AND WEBSTER STREETS (enter from Clay St.): This garage is open 24 hrs/day. Parking is $1 per 1/2 hour.

PARKING GARAGE AT 2100 WEBSTER STREET: (East side, between Sacramento and Clay): This garage is open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. $1.50 per 1/2 hour.

PARKING GARAGE AT 1610 GEARY BOULEVARD: (Note: this garage is a 9 block walk to the Institute.) Open 6:00 AM-Midnight. $1.25 per hour.

STREET PARKING: Finding street parking takes patience. Meter maids are vigilant about ticketing at expired meters, in street cleaning zones and in 2-hour parking zones.

Driving Directions

The Institute is located at 2318 Fillmore Street between Clay and Washington Streets in Pacific Heights. The following are driving directions from different parts of the Bay. If you would like driving directions from your specific destination to the Institute, please visit Yahoo Maps.

From the South Bay
Take 101 North. Exit 101 North at the US-101 N/Mission St exit toward Van Ness Ave/ G G Bridge. Turn right onto Mission St/US-101 N. Continue to follow US-101 N. Turn left onto Pine St. Turn right onto Fillmore St.

From the East Bay
Cross the Bay Bridge, then exit at Fremont St. Turn left onto Fremont St. Fremont St becomes Front St. Turn left onto Pine St. Turn right onto Fillmore St.

From the North Bay
Take 101 South, pass through the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza, and take the Lombard St exit. Stay on Lombard St until Fillmore St. Turn right at Fillmore St.
