What do we mean by the term accessible?

  • Accessible route means knowing in which direction the destination is located and being able to determine one's current location. A building entrance is accessible when it can be found.
  • Accessible telephone means that one can locate it whether on a sidewalk or across the lobby of an airport.
  • Accessible public transportation means that people can locate the bus loading area (bus stop) and be able to determine their arrival at the desired destination.
  • Accessible buildings and malls means that one can independently and safely locate offices, shops, elevators and emergency exits within an otherwise homogeneous environment.
