Adaptive Visual Strategies for Individuals with Macular Degeneration

Placing a peg in a peg board while hand and finger position is being tracked.

This project aims for a better understanding of the visual strategies people use to gather information in the world. We compare eye movements in healthy controls and in individuals with macular degeneration, which affects the central visual field. The eye movement strategies of healthy adults in an information gathering task serve as a reference point. We then investigate ways to improve eye movements of patients with macular degeneration at the same task, while taking their specific field deficit into account.
