As a pediatric ophthalmologist, I have dedicated my career to preventing childhood blindness. From starting a small program in Sao Paulo, Brazil through the transference of knowhow from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and many institutions from the USA, and working in close collaboration with experts in the field, more than 20 reference centers were created throughout the country and Latin America to attend to children and their families. Presently, I am a full-time member of the SEELAB with Dr. Arvind Chandna's team at SKERI. For the last 14 months, I have helped successfully implement a remote virtual project on Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) in children with parents, older children, and adults with CVI (acquired and early onset). Also, I am contributing to the development of the web-based application for CVI's assessment as part of a global project for the early detection of visual deficits caused by brain lesions in children.
