Nasif ZamanPaper-based tests like shape tracing can provide clinicians with valuable insight regarding functional consequences of maculopathy as well as qualitative information about presence and characteristics of patients’ scotomata. Dr. Donald Fletcher uses his experience with such paper-based tests to screen patients. However, for practitioners without such experience, these tests can be difficult to quantify and interpret in the clinic. We have thus developed an Apple iPad/Pencil-based app that automates the data collection, analysis and interpretation process for these tasks. Our goal with this project is three-fold: (1) examine its discriminatory value for functional vision assessment and scotoma characterization and (2) collect training data to develop a classification algorithm that could assist in interpreting the results (3) help low vision therapists rehabilitate patients with a gamified training tool.
